Yellow Submarine Klopp-ed
Liverpool beat Villareal 3-2 at Estadio de la Ceramica in their UEFA Champions League semi- final second leg and book a place to the final.
Villareal had a mountain to climb and upset their 2-0 first leg loss to Liverpool. It was the perfect start for the hosts as Boulaye Dia scored his first ever UCL goal on the third minute assisted by Etienne Capoue and what a time it was to score his first. Estadio de la Ceramica erupted with deafening jubilation. With five minutes to the break, Francis Coquelin rose highest to meet Etienne Capoue’s cross and hand Villareal a 2-0 advantage to the break and leveling the tie to 2-2 on aggregate.
Jurgen Klopp was frustrated as the Yellow submarine really upped their game trying to do the miracle comeback and win the tie. Luis Diaz was introduced at half time to bolster Red’s attack. Just past the hour mark, Fabinho fired a shot that Rulli made a mess of it as the ball passed between his legs and into the net to make it 2-1. Liverpool were turning the tide as five minutes later, Diaz headed for the Red’s courtesy of Alexander Arnold’s brilliant cross.
And once again, the Diaz headed goal going through Rulli’s legs to make it 2-2 on the night and 2-4 on aggregate. Unai Emery was in disbelief as how he conceded two quick goals.
There was more drama as Rulli rushed out of his goal to reach Keita’s through ball but was beaten to it by Sadio Mane who calmly slotted the ball home to an empty net to make it 3-2 for the Reds. The night got worse as Etienne Capoue received his marching orders as he got a second yellow card for a tackle on Curtis Jones.
Liverpool winning on the night and on aggregate (2-5).Liverpool’s quadruple hopes were kept alive as they are through to the final.
