Mavs avoid sweep with Game 4 win against the Warriors
Mavericks run past the Warriors 119-109 at American Airlines Center to avoid the sweep and up the momentum heading to Game 5.
Luka Doncic’s double-double, 30 points and 14 rebounds was crucial to hand the win to the Mavs. He almost had a triple double as he had 9 assists too in the game. Warriors were led by Steph Curry’s 20 points and Kuminga’s 17 points. It was a crucial game for the Mavericks if they are to keep their hopes alive with Warriors only needing a win to take them to the final. Six players for Dallas finished with double figures in the match.
The Mavs made 11-of-23 from beyond the arc in the first half that helped them into a 62-47 half time lead.
There was delay of about twenty minutes in the second half as there was a leak from the arena roof which allowed puddles of water to gather at one end of the court. This did not stop Mavericks momentum to continue dropping shots on the Warriors. Jason Kidd’s Mavs built a 29-point lead after three quarters which was impressive and shocking to the Warriors fan base leading 99-70.
The Warriors had to throw everything into the fourth quarter if they were to wrap the series up. Warriors shot 75% in the quarter compared to Mavs 38.9%.In addition, Warriors had nine defensive rebounds, three steals and 100% shooting from the arc with four made 3-pointers.Momentum was on but not enough.
The writing was on the wall already as Dallas won 119-109 to avoid the sweep.
“Everybody in the locker room feels like we have more basketball to play,” said Mavs forward Dorian Finney-Smith who had 23 points. “We just wanted to get the win by any means necessary.”
The series will return to San Francisco for Thursday’s Game 5.
Will the Warriors wrap up the series or will the Mavs keep on believing towards reaching Game 7?
