Los Blancos see off Chelsea at Santiago Bernabeu

After winning 3-1 at Stamford Bridge courtesy of Benzema's hat-trick, it was turn for Real Madrid to defend their own turf at Bernabeu.The win gave a big boost of morale and confidence to going through to the semis.


Chelsea started the match strongly and were focused to tackle the assignment ahead.Overturning a 3-1 loss was going to be a huge task for Tuchel and his men.They had to give their all to win.Mason Mount led the scoring in the 15th minute with a hard shot that flew past Courtois to the bottom left corner of the net. The score was 1-0.Chelsea had most of the possession and Madrid were finding it hard to get the ball back. Going into the break Chelsea was leading 1-0 possessing 52% of the ball.


The second half was still in Blues favour as they started off with the same momentum from where they left.Rudiger striking Blues second goal courtesy of Mount's corner on the 51st minute.A couple of substitutions by Ancelotti to bring Madrid back into the game was made.

On 75th minute Werner stroke Chelsea's third and the Blues seem to running with it all the way into the semis.3-0!


But it wasn't over as Rodrigo pulled one back for Real Madrid with a delicious Modric outer foot assist curving overhead the Blues' backline. Mendy couldn't save it. The aggregate score was back to 4-4.


The game headed to extra time with players looking tired but the fight had to go on. There was going to be only one winner tonight at The Bernabeu. Real Madrid started well to ensure they stamp their authority into extra time. With that, they were rewarded by Benzema's headed goal courtesy of Vinicius Junior cross. Rudiger could have salvaged the situation if only he didn't slip. A big mistake! The man in form, Benzema, never misses such chances. The score was now 2-3 on the night and Madrid leading on aggregate 5-4.


Madrid went through courtesy of aggregate score of 5-4.Ancelotti breathed a sigh of relief as his team fought back to win. Chelsea threw everything but was not enough for the night. They [Chelsea] must be proud of how they performed even though they bowed out.


What an epic match at the Bernabeu!
